Nimali Fernando MD MPH FAAP
Dr. Nimali Fernando is a board-certified pediatrician practicing in Fredericksburg, VA and founder of the website doctoryum.org and The Doctor Yum Project, a nonprofit organization that empowers families with information on illness prevention through a healthy diet. Dr. Fernando graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Medical Degree and Masters in Public Health. She completed her residency in Pediatrics at The University of Texas – Houston Health Science Center and then served for several years as Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Pediatrics. In 2005, she began practicing pediatrics in Fredericksburg, Virginia. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). She is also the co-author of Doctor Yum’s Preschool Food Adventure, in interactive nutrition curriculum being used in several Central Virginia Schools and Raising a Healthy, Happy Eater: A Parent’s Handbook. She has been on a guest expert on childhood nutrition on such media outlets as NPR, Sirius XM radio, Fox DC, Fox Baltimore and WUSA. Her work with the Doctor Yum Project has been featured in Northern VA Magazine, The Voice of America, WTOP and The New York Times.
Carmen Mims LPNCarmen Mims, LPN Carmen has been a caring pediatric nurse for almost 6 years. She is originally from Germany, has been married for 15 years, and is the mother of two adorable girls. She loves interacting with and educating families with young children. She loves to run, read and prepare healthy food. Her favorite fruit is strawberries and her favorite vegetable is Brussels sprouts!
Alexis Barney LPNAlexis has a long background with kids, first working for many years in childcare. After getting her degree she decided to go into pediatric nursing and she has found it to be a great fit! In her spare time Alexis spends time with her two beautiful daughters.
Samantha HeinleinSamantha (“Sam”) Heinlein joined our practice with a decade of experience in a busy veterinary hospital. Samantha is overjoyed to bring her enthusiasm for medicine and children to Yum Pediatrics. Samantha loves to spend time outside and can often be found walking downtown. She also enjoys reading a good book and cooking a healthy meal for family and friends. Her favorite fruit is cantaloupe and her favorite vegetable is broccoli.
Kelly BoehmKelly comes to our office with 15 years of medical office experience. She truly enjoys getting to know patients and their families. She’s originally from Arizona and misses wearing her flip flops in the winter, but loves living in Virginia. She has 4 children, 2 Labrador retrievers and handsome, twin boys. Her favorite fruit is strawberries and her favorite vegetable is asparagus.
Joyce has worked as a Medical Assistant and Medical Secretary for over 20 years. Originally from St. Louis, MO, she moved to Fredericksburg with her husband of 30 years after living in Madrid, Spain for over 3 years, Joyce has 3 awesome grown children. She loves her dogs & cats, yoga, and fun sneakers. Her favorite healthy treat is Doctor Yum’s Green Dragon smoothie!
